Hasami Porcelain
Hasami is a small town in Nagasaki Prefecture with over four hundred years of ceramic production history, making it one of Japan's oldest and most established pottery regions. The town's kilns have been producing tableware since the early seventeenth century, when Korean potters brought their knowledge to the region after the Japanese invasions of Korea. Over the following centuries, Hasami developed its own distinctive aesthetic and technical tradition, high-quality, accessible porcelain that served the daily needs of ordinary households across Japan rather than the ceremonial requirements of the aristocracy.
The modern Hasami porcelain brand, which emerged in the early twenty-first century from a collaboration between designers and the region's long-established manufacturers, brought this tradition into contemporary relevance with a clean, minimal aesthetic that suits both Japanese and Western interiors equally well. The characteristic Hasami style, matte glazes in grey, brown, navy and forest green, stackable cylindrical forms, simple proportions, has been widely influential in food and restaurant design worldwide since its introduction, and original Hasami pieces remain the benchmark for this look.
The range here includes plates, bowls, cups, mugs, tall cups and carafes, all in the core Hasami colour palette and most available in several sizes. The stackable design means they store efficiently in a kitchen cabinet without wasted space, and the consistency of form across the range means that pieces from different size categories work visually together on the table.
