Ladles & turners
Ladles & Turners
Ladles and turners are among the tools you use most often during cooking, which makes their quality matter more than you might expect. A ladle that drips every time you lift it from the pot, or a turner that bends under the weight of a piece of meat, adds up to real frustration over the course of a cooking session. The Japanese-made options here are designed to eliminate those annoyances entirely, they are balanced, well-constructed and made from materials that hold their form and finish over years of regular use.
The ladle selection covers a range of sizes and styles. Deep round ladles in 18-8 stainless steel are ideal for soups, broths and stews, delivering a clean pour with no drips. The classic Japanese otama ladle, with its round bowl and long handle, is the standard for miso soup, ramen broth and hotpot service. Flat ladles and skimmers are used for removing foam from broths and lifting ingredients from simmering liquids. All of them are designed with handle length and balance in mind, which makes a real difference during the extended cooking sessions that Japanese dishes often require.
Turners in this collection include both wide flat models for sautéing and flipping and the slotted versions that allow oil to drain through when lifting fried foods. The Sori Yanagi slotted turner is a particularly good example: its sculptural, elegant form is matched by excellent practical performance, and it sits beautifully in the hand thanks to the carefully considered curve of its handle.
Whether you are working with a simmering pot of dashi, flipping gyoza in a cast iron pan or serving shabu-shabu at the table, having the right ladle or turner changes the experience significantly for the better.
